This watch will be supplied with our Certificate of Authenticity. That stainless steel case doesn’t have any major damage, and has not been polished. The acrylic crystal is new, as is the leather strap. The dial has applied markers, all in place, and has some even patina. Neither the hands not the dial have any lume, which is a good thing as the lume used then was radioactive Radium. This Universal Geneve has lost the plating to the crown, but otherwise is in decent shape. But next door, in Switzerland, watch manufacture continued. In 1947 Vienna in Austria had food riots, so watches were not a luxury. This cost saving measure was understandable – the world economy was very shaky, with the basics not even being available. Post second world war watches tended to be made of base metals, then either plated or chromed. 264 movement and using their serial numbers we believe this watch was made circa 1948. However, looking at other watches produced with the same Cal. Normally Universal Geneve watches of this period have a serial number on the case back, but this example has had a replacement case back at some point, losing this reference number.
